4 bus drivers test positive for drugs

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Four drivers of provincial buses bound for Leyte and Bohol tested positive for illegal drugs during random drug tests conducted at the Araneta bus terminal in Quezon City yesterday.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Winston Ginez tweeted that the drivers, whom he refused to identify, were brought to the city prosecutor’s office to be charged with violating the anti-drunk and drugged driving law.

He said the drivers’ licenses were confiscated and will be revoked. The operators of the buses driven by the drivers will be “directly and principally” held liable along with the offender for fines and damages, Ginez added.

Ginez said that they will conduct drug tests in other bus terminals in Manila until Saturday in a bid to ensure the safety of passengers who will be going to the provinces for All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days, also known as Undas.
