Quezon Avenue-EDSA intersection now open
MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon Avenue-EDSA intersection in Quezon City has been opened to motorists, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.
MMDA officer-in-charge Emerson Carlos said in a radio interview that traffic signals were installed at the intersection.
“The opening of the intersection was part of government’s efforts to ease traffic along EDSA,” he said.
Carlos said southbound vehicles coming from Quezon Avenue turning left to EDSA as well as northbound vehicles (heading toward Trinoma and SM North areas) coming from Quezon Avenue turning left to EDSA can now use the intersection.
However, vehicles going to Quezon City Circle or Manila will not be allowed to use the intersection.
The MMDA said these vehicles should pass through the Quezon Avenue tunnel.
The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has been tasked to strictly enforce traffic rules on EDSA.
Meanwhile, Carlos said the clearing operation to be carried out by the MMDA and HPG along the Mabuhay Christmas lanes would start on Nov. 2.
He said tow trucks would be deployed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. to tow illegally parked vehicles and remove other traffic obstructions.
Carlos said the targets of the clearing operation along EDSA and other secondary roads in Metro Manila are rundown structures, ambulant vendors and illegally parked vehicles.
