9 hurt in jeepney-tanker collision
MANILA, Philippines – Nine people on a family outing were hurt in Manila when a jeepney crashed into an oil tanker Friday night.
Some of the passengers sustained head injuries and were taken to the PSG Hospital in Manila, where they were still being treated as of yesterday afternoon.
Jeepney driver Joseph Solvita told reporters that faulty brakes caused his vehicle to hit an oil tanker with plate number (CUR 359).
Both vehicles were traversing Nagtahan Bridge’s southbound lane at past 8 p.m. when the accident took place, according to Joan Lim, radio operator of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Metrobase.
One of the passengers, Ian Ronquillo, said their family came from Caloocan and had been bound for a vacation spot in Laguna.
Lim said based on reports that reached the MMDA, fuel oil also leaked from Solvita’s jeepney, prompting local officials to send for firefighters.
