Woman slain in bus heist

MANILA, Philippines - A 23-year-old woman was shot dead during a bus robbery in Makati City at past midnight yesterday.

Reen Franchesca Cruz sustained a bullet wound in the abdomen and died while being treated at the Makati Medical Center, according to the Makati police.

Cruz was aboard a Delta Transport Inc. bus (UYD-134) bound for Baclaran from Navotas when two still unidentified robbers got on the bus at the intersection of Ayala Avenue and EDSA just before 1 a.m.

Police said one of the robbers approached Cruz but she resisted and even pushed the robber away. It was at this point that the robber shot her at close range.

The robbers, police said, quickly left the bus but not before taking the victim’s mobile phone.
