MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed the ruling of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) upholding the election of Caloocan 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice in the 2013 polls.
SC spokesman Theodore Te said the high court dismissed on Tuesday the petition of Mary Mitzi Cajayon seeking reversal of the HRET ruling.
The high court held that the HRET, which resolves election protests against members of Congress, did not commit grave abuse of discretion in dismissing the protest of Cajayon.
Cajayon was Erice’s rival in the congressional race in 2013. Erice, stalwart of the Liberal Party, won over Cajayon by a margin of about 8,000 votes.
