Drilon wants debates aired on primetime TV

Marvin Sy - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Franklin Drilon urged the television networks to air the presidential and vice presidential debates being planned by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on primetime.

Drilon aired his full support for the holding of debates “in order for the voters to know the candidates well and their stand on the most pressing issues being faced by the country” such as the fight against corruption, poverty alleviation, ending political dynasties, labor and job generation and tax reform.

But more than just airing the debates live on television, Drilon said that these events should be broadcast on primetime.

”If possible, let’s give these debates a primetime slot, so every Filipino could watch and see for themselves who these candidates really are,” he said.

Drilon, who is seeking reelection as a member of the Liberal Party, said he also wants to see debates among the senatorial candidates.
