Lim challenges Erap, Bagatsing for Manila mayoralty
MANILA, Philippines – Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy as he seeks to get his mayoralty post back and challenge two other aspirants.
Lim will run against former president and current Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada and Manila 5t?h District Rep. Amado Bagatsing, making it a three-cornered fight for the Manila mayor’s post.
The former mayor will run under the Liberal Party.
Before filing his COC at the Commission on Elections office in Arroceros, Manila, Lim reportedly visited the marker of Benigno “Ninoy” and Corazon “Cory” Aquino and passed by Manila City hall, marching with his supporters. Some employees expressed support for the former mayor.
Meanwhile, Bagatsing filed his COC on Monday with running mate Councilor Ali Atienza, son of former Manila Mayor Joselito “Lito” Atienza, while Estrada is scheduled to file his candidacy on Wednesday with running mate Sheila Honey Pangan, daughter of former vice mayor Danny Lacuna.
Erap defeated Lim in the 2013 elections. Prior to that, Lim served as Manila mayor from 1992 to 1998, 2007 to 2013 and also became a senator from 2004 to 2007.
