Lawman files raps vs CNN anchor
MANILA, Philippines - A policeman earlier accused of harassing CNN Philippines news anchor Gani Oro has filed charges against the latter for allegedly intervening in the serving of an arrest warrant in Quezon City last week.
Police Officer 3 Joeson Villagracia charged Oro before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office with direct assault upon person in authority, obstruction of justice and physical injury for “squeezing” the arm of his friend, businesswoman Dayamala Benito.
In his sworn statement, Villagracia – who is assigned to Camp Crame – said he was with Benito and several members of the Quezon City Police District to serve an arrest warrant against Oro’s supposed partner, Imee Santiago, when the broadcaster intervened.
Villagracia said Oro prevented him from arresting Santiago despite the arrest warrant issued by a Manila judge in connection with the supposed violation of anti-bouncing checks law.
The case in Manila was filed by Benito.
