MMFF copied NY film fest logo?

MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is being bashed and questioned for allegedly copying the registered logo of New York-based Tribeca Film Festival.

In a Facebook post, Jonell Estillore posted screenshots of MMFF’s website link with the logo similar to the Tribeca Film Festival.

Estillore called the attention of MMFF via the comments section and said, “Bakit niyo po ginagaya ang Tribeca Film Fest logo? Hindi pa tama ang typeface (Why are you copying the Tribeca Film Fest logo? The typeface is not even correct).”

The website www.metromanilafilmfestival.com is currently on maintenance mode.

A member of the MMFF secretariat, Gigi Mallillin, responded to Estillore’s post, saying the logo was not meant to be posted.

“The preview was not meant to be posted as the website was still under beta testing and nothing was final yet. MMFF has its own graphic brand and no copyright infringement on materials was intended,” Mallillin said.

Mallillin added that they have already deleted what was posted and apologized for the “glaring oversight.”

The Metro Manila Development Authority, the agency organizing the annual MMFF, has yet to issue a statement.
