MANILA, Philippines - More than 12,000 netizens have signed an online petition asking the government to hold public and school screenings of “Heneral Luna.”
“The best way to inculcate patriotism as exemplified by Heneral Luna is to bring the message right into the minds of students in the elementary and high schools,” read the petition on Change.org.
“They have to see our nation’s history, both the dark and bright sides of it, bring them to reflect about the present and draw a conclusion about what they could contribute to help the nation achieve unity so that the latter will usher into genuine change, prosperity and independence in the truest sense of the word,” the petition stated.
Rolan Literatus from Cagayan de Oro, who started the petition, said the film captures the legacy of the feud between Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo during the Philippine-American War.
“The youth must be made aware that there is always an abundance of Aguinaldos and his minions in our government, now and in the future,” the petition read.
