MANILA, Philippines - The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT 1) will implement the automated fare collection system (AFCS), which uses “beep cards,” for northbound trips starting tomorrow.
The LRT 1 started using the beep cards for southbound trips last month. The rail line runs from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in Pasay City.
Beep cards were used in the LRT Line 2, which starts from Santolan in Pasig City until Recto in Manila, in July.
The use of the new ticketing scheme means paper coupons will no longer be used in the stations of LRT 1.
The beep card, which replaced the magnetic ticket, uses a more powerful chip-based system and will serve as an electronic micropayment solution in day-to-day payments.
