Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Marikina paid tribute yesterday to fallen police officers in an annual commemoration of their contributions to the city’s peace and order.

The 28th Police Memorial Day was highlighted by a walk from the Freedom Park to the Loyola Memorial Park where 115 policemen were laid to rest.

Mayor Del de Guzman led the blessing and offering of flowers at the graves of the departed police officers.

A 21-gun salute was given to their honor.

Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo was the guest of honor during the event. She spoke to the families of the fallen policemen and shared their pain of losing a loved one.

Robredo is the widow of the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash in Masbate in August 2012.

The memorial day was attended by Marikina Rep. Federico Romero Quimbo, Vice Mayor Jose Fabian Cadiz and other city officials.

Members of the National Capital Region Police Office and representatives of national government agencies in the city as well as non-government organizations joined the event.
