Detained OFW’s mother seeks Noy’s help

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The mother of an overseas Filipino worker detained in Saudi Arabia is worried over the status of her daughter‘s case, citing conflicting information she is receiving from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

In a statement released by Migrante-Middle East, Editha Dacanay appealed to President Aquino to help her daughter, Rose Dacanay-Policarpio.

Rose was implicated in the murder of her employer, a female Lebanese doctor, in June 2013. She denied the allegation, adding the assailants attempted to rape her.

In an email to Omar Pangarungan of the office of the undersecretary for migrant workers affairs of the DFA, Dacanay said Rose called her a month ago and told her that her case is considered closed because the victim’s family has not been attending the hearings.

“The hearings were stopped since 2014 but until now there is no decision yet,” she said.

“Rose has not been released from jail because her employer does not want to sign her exit clearance,” she added.

However, Dacanay said DFA officials told her Rose is a “candidate for death row.”

“I also received a call from the DFA that Rose has not been freed because the hearings are ongoing,” she said.

Dacanay said Pangarungan in a reply to her email said he would check the status of the case.
