MANILA, Philippines - A 15-year-old out-of-school youth shot his former girlfriend’s boyfriend in Marikina City yesterday.

Victim Danilo de Luna Jr., 16, sustained a gunshot wound in the head. He was declared “brain dead” by doctors at the St. Vincent Hospital and died while being treated an hour later.

The suspect escaped after the incident, bringing the handgun he used. The city police has launched a manhunt for the teen.

Chief Inspector Constantino Cayetano, head of the city police’s investigation division, said De Luna, his 15-year-old girlfriend, and some of their friends were playing cards along Mais street in Barangay Tumana when the suspect arrived at about 12:25 a.m. yesterday.

According to Cayetano, De Luna and the suspect engaged in a heated argument over De Luna’s girlfriend.

Cooler heads intervened and the suspect left.

However, the suspect returned a few minutes later and shot De Luna at close range with a handgun, said Senior Police Officer 1 Charles Pacquing.
