Baby slapped by ma taken to DSWD facility

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A newborn seen on video repeatedly being slapped by his mother has been taken to a facility run by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), an official said yesterday.

The baby was cleared for discharge by the Pasay City General Hospital last Wednesday and taken to the Reception and Study Center for Children, DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman said.

The baby will stay at the center while the DSWD tries to find who among his mother’s relatives could take him in.

The baby’s mother will remain in the hospital pending blood transfusions and the result of her counseling sessions with a psychologist of the Pasay City social welfare and development office, which will also provide her with appropriate after-care support services, the DSWD said.
