2 killed, 12 hurt in Quezon City, Marikina smashup

A Starex van crashed into a motorcycle in Quezon City yesterday. BERNARDO BATUIGAS  

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were killed and six others were injured when a van rammed a motorcycle in Quezon City at dawn yesterday.

Motorcycle rider Hanzalla Domato died at the scene along with his companion Abdul Dagalangit, Senior Inspector Marlon Meman, chief of the Quezon City Police District traffic sector 2, said.

Among those injured were Karl Vincent Jude Baculina and Jamal Dave Disumimba. They were taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Police said Domato and Dagalangit were traveling on a motorcycle along Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Pasong Tamo, Novaliches at around 2 a.m. when the vehicle collided with a Starex van driven by Baculina.

Domato and Dagalangit were thrown off the motorcycle as a result of the collision, Meman said.

Domato was pinned under the van, causing his instant death.

Meman said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries and damage to property would be filed against Baculina.

In Marikina City, six people were hurt when a car hit a passenger jeepney at an intersection in Barangay San Roque yesterday.

Injured were Sebastian Kampitan, 61, and his daughter, Bernadette, 16; Glen Carlo Rillera, 18; John Chester Navarro, 18; Marigold Sipisip, 18, and James Taneda, 42.

They were rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigation showed that Kampitan and his daughter were in a Toyota Vios with license plate UVM-952 when it hit the passenger jeepney (TVV- 458) driven by Roque Nerio, 67, at the corner of Gil Fernando and Everest streets in Barangay San Roque.

Nerio and Herwin Inocete, 42, driver of the Toyota Vios, were unhurt in the accident.

Police arrested Nerio and Inocete following the mishap. Charges of physical injures are being readied against them.
