Student, jobless man lose P.6 M to burglars in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines - A student and a jobless man reported losing a total of P623,500 in cash and valuables in separate burglaries in Quezon City on Wednesday, officials said yesterday.
Marie Francesca Marcelo, 21, told police she was sleeping when the burglars climbed the fence and entered their house in Barangay Old Balara by destroying the hook of a sliding window in her bedroom, Batasan police station commander Superintendent Robert Sales said.
Marcelo reported that the unidentified burglar stole two mobile phones worth P40,000 along with P330,000 in jewelry and P10,000 cash, stashed in a wooden cabinet, Sales said.
He said that the theft was only discovered when Marcelo woke up at around 9 a.m. and reported the incident to the security guard and to the police station.
In Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, a 59-year-old jobless man reported that a burglar stole P243,500 in valuables and cash from his house Wednesday afternoon.
Johnny Empleo said he and his wife were sleeping on the ground floor of their house when the unidentified burglar climbed over their concrete wall and entered through the open window of the second floor of their house, according to Police Officer 3 Elario Wanawan of the Novaliches police station.
Wanawan said the Empleos told investigators they lost a laptop worth P15,000; an P8,000 netbook; two tablets worth P20,000; a P13,000 mobile phone; two watches worth P5,000; a power bank worth P2,500; assorted jewelry worth P50,000; four necklaces worth P20,000; four diamond rings worth P20,000; and P90,000 cash.
