MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) limited its operation to trips between its Shaw Boulevard and North Avenue stations during yesterday afternoon’s rush hour.
Some passengers chose to stay at the MRT stations, hoping trains would arrive, while others opted to take a bus.
The volume of stranded MRT commuters caused a traffic jam on EDSA’s southbound lane in Makati City.
The MRT posted a short announcement about the limited operations shortly after the stations became congested with stranded commuters.
MRT general manager Roman Buenafe was unavailable for comment.
Radio reports, however, said the MRT’s limited operation was due to another technical problem.
