Teen dies in Caloocan fire

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 13-year-old boy died when he was trapped in his family’s burning house on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue in Caloocan City before dawn yesterday.

Firefighters found Daniel Rivera’s body in the bathroom on the third floor of the house after the blaze was put under control at past 2 a.m.

The fire started at around 1:30 a.m. while the Rivera family was sleeping.

Florencia de Vera, 62, said the ceiling was on fire when she woke up and alerted her pregnant daughter.

The two picked up the baby, who was sleeping beside them on the bed, but forgot Daniel, who was sleeping in another room.

Firemen said it was possible that the boy was trapped and rushed to the bathroom to seek refuge but suffocated.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.
