Suspect in cop’s slay killed

MANILA, Philippines - A man suspected of killing a policeman during a drug raid last April was shot dead in Navotas City before dawn yesterday.

Mercury Modrigo Jr., 28, was arrested while reportedly taking part in a pot session at Market 3 in Barangay North Bay Boulevard.

As police officers escorted him back to the police station after undergoing a drug test, he was shot when allegedly tried to grab the gun of Police Officer 1 Rolando Cruz.

Modrigo allegedly killed Police Officer 1 Julius Mendoza and wounded two others during a raid on the same area last April.
