26 hurt as bus rams post on EDSA flyover

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-six passengers were injured after a bus rammed a concrete post along EDSA in Quezon City Tuesday night.

A Daewoo Worthy Transport bus with license plates AEL-989 driven by Dennis Carillanes, 25, was traversing Aurora Boulevard when it crashed into a concrete post of the EDSA-Santolan flyover at past 9:30 p.m., Quezon City Police District’s traffic enforcement unit chief Superintendent Ely Pintang said.

Pintang said the impact damaged the front portion of the bus, causing minor injuries to the passengers.

Injured were Felma Cordero, Fernando Dugan, Junifer Capuyan, Mariela Fe Lopez, Doris Mae Mercado, Manilyn Mallari, Ronel Adipen, Christian Agbuas, April Frilles, Jett Minerva, Junmark Alcantara, Ferdinand Cayabyab, Ramon Melgar, Jocelyn Paragas, Noel Galapate, Jasmine Joy Jardin, Fredi Pacul, Melissa Garalde, Ramon Tamayo, Silvestre Astillo, Merlyn Adelia, Edmund Villanueva, Dan Eduardo Anastacio, Maria Nina de Dios, Cerila Magabo and Rey Christian Ponce.

Rescuers from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority rushed the victims to the East Avenue Medical Center and St. Luke’s Medical Center for treatment.

Police said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries would be filed against the bus driver.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it has yet to receive a police report about the vehicular accident.
