Shorter hours for rail lines tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Rail Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) will have shorter hours tomorrow for the replacement of defective railroad tracks during the Holy Week.

MRT general manager Roman Buenafe said more than 160 meters of defective tracks between Ortigas and Santolan stations will be replaced. 

The MRT recently announced that while the rail line will start operating at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow, the North Avenue station will close at 7:40 p.m. and the Taft Avenue station at 8:20 p.m.  The rail line usually runs until 11 p.m.

The MRT will not operate from Maundy Thursday until Easter Sunday.

The rail line will resume operations on Monday. The first train will leave the North Avenue station at 4:40 a.m. and the Taft Avenue station at 5:20 a.m.

The LRT’s Line 1 and 2 will run until 8 p.m. on Holy Wednesday and will not be open from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. The LRT usually runs from 5 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The PNR announced that it will have limited operations for its trains running from Tutuban to Calamba and back during the Holy Week.

PNR general manager Joseph Allan Dilay said the trains will run from 5:30 a.m. until noon on Maundy Thursday and the rail line will be closed from Good Friday to Black Saturday.

He said PNR personnel will do maintenance work on the trains and tracks while the rail line is closed.

There will be limited trips on Easter Sunday. The PNR will resume normal operations on Monday.
