QC joins Earth Hour celebration

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista will lead the main switch-off of the Earth Hour celebrations in the Philippines this evening at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC).

Quezon City was chosen by the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines to host the Earth Hour celebrations in the Philippines.

“In the spirit of promoting meaningful climate solutions, we encourage Pinoy families to stay at home and observe the hour through low-carbon means. Everyone who wishes to join us at the Quezon Memorial Circle may come in sporty attire and bright colors,” Earth Hour Philippines director Angela Consuelo Ibay said.

During the celebration, lights adorning the QMC pylon will be turned off for an hour starting at 8:30 p.m.

Aside from the pylon, the city government will also switch off the streetlights at the city hall compound, and along Elliptical Road, Visayas Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue.

Bautista also enjoined business establishment owners, especially mall owners, to support the lights-out activity.
