QC school stops graduating student’s speech
MANILA, Philippines - A private school in Quezon City is receiving flak online after an official stopped the batch salutatorian from delivering a speech that was not approved by school administrators.
A video of the incident was uploaded by graduating student Krisel Mallari, who was stopped by the emcee halfway into her speech during the graduation ceremony of the Sto. Niño Parochial School last week.
Mallari veered away from the speech approved by the school administrators and started talking about a cheating incident when the emcee, reportedly an administrator, interrupted her.
Mallari, however, continued with her speech, prompting the emcee to grab the microphone from her.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Mallari confirmed that she delivered an impromptu speech about a cheating incident at the school.
She maintained that freedom of speech allows her to speak what’s on her mind, especially during her graduation.
Her sister, Katherine, confirmed in the report that they have been asking the school for the computation of her grades. They claimed that it was “suspiciously” lower than expected.
School officials have yet to issue a statement over the incident.
