Man arrested for ‘sextortion’

MANILA, Philippines - Police have arrested a 34-year-old man tagged in “sextortion” in an entrapment operation in Quezon City.

Jungie Banico, married, of Barangay Rosario in Pasig City, was nabbed Wednesday at a mall in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Quezon City shortly after receiving the P2,000 marked money from the victim, said Police Officer 2 Sherly Montaño of the Quezon City Police District.

The complainant, a 30-year-old government employee from Antipolo, Rizal, sought police help after Banico allegedly threatened to expose their intimate videos if she would not pay him P3,000. Montaño said the victim met Banico on a social dating site on Feb. 27.

She said the victim believed the suspect’s promise of marrying her, prompting her to give in to his sexual advances the following day.

Charges of robbery and extortion will be slapped against Banico before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
