Public warned vs 4 toxic cosmetic products

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday warned the public against four unregistered cosmetic products that contain high levels of lead.

The products, which do not bear FDA notification, were the Baolishi Lipstick No. 20, Miss Beauty New Formulized Moisture Lipstick No. 2, Monaliza Series Lipstick No. 5 and Miss Beauty BB Spray UV Resistance Whitening Spray.

FDA director general Nicolas Lutero III said the products were collected by the Regional Field Office-National Capital Region.

Lutero said the products were tested for mercury, lead and arsenic contents. Results showed they contain lead beyond the acceptable limit set by the ASEAN Cosmetic Association.

Consumers are advised to buy cosmetic products that have FDA market authorization and only from legitimate outlets.

Lutero ordered the FDA regulatory officers to monitor and seize all unregistered cosmetic products.

He asked local government units to ensure that these are not sold by ambulant and sidewalk vendors and the Bureau of Customs to prevent the entry of unregistered and toxic health products in the country.
