MANILA, Philippines - A fire broke out at Quezon City’s Central Post Office (QCCPO) yesterday morning.
The blaze started at around 5:35 a.m. at the records section, located on the second floor of the post office building along NIA Road, one of the biggest post offices in the country.
City fire marshal Superintendent Jesus Fernandez said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. The blaze damaged around P50,000 worth of property before it was put out half an hour later.
Postmaster General Josefina dela Cruz said it is “business as usual” at the QCCPO and all the letters, parcels and items intended for delivery are intact.
The Philippine Postal Corp. inspectorate department reported that no one was hurt or injured in the fire. The department’s manager, Lee Viceral, said only one computer and some office records were burned and “the structure of the room was not damaged at all.”
