Pol’s drunk nephew trashes city hall office

MANILA, Philippines - A man reported to be a nephew of Caloocan Rep. Enrico Echiverri faces charges for allegedly barging into the city government’s north city hall Sunday night and destroying property at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Erwin Cruz will be charged with alarm, scandal and destruction of public property after he forced open the CDRRMO just before 9 p.m., according to Mayor Oscar Malapitan.

Cruz knocked on the door of the office, which is open ‘round the clock, and when no one answered he forced the door open and entered the room, according to a report by public safety and traffic management officer-in-charge Jay Bernardo.

Cruz then ripped the photos of Malapitan and Vice Mayor Macario Asistio III from the wall in front of terrified employees, he added.

An employee, who asked not to be identified, said Cruz reportedly reeked of liquor.

Police officers said Cruz, a former officer-in-charge at the north Caloocan city hall during Echeverri’s term as mayor, went to the adjacent Tricycle and Pedicab Regulatory Services office, talked to employees on duty, and left in a black sport utility vehicle.
