Cop sacked for papal fund grievance snubs new post

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A police officer who was removed from his post for complaining on television about the papal fund fiasco did not report for his new assignment yesterday.

Chief Inspector Erwin Eco of the Regional Police Holding Administrative Unit at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig was transferred to the Northern Police District (NPD) on orders of National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo Valmoria.

Eco said he never received the P2,400 allowance for police officers deployed to secure Pope Francis’ visit.

NPD director Chief Superintendent Jonathan Miano said he is waiting for Eco to report. “He will be sent to the Navotas police station, where we are lacking in officers,” he said.

Valmoria also instructed Miano to monitor Eco’s activities and prevent him from airing anew his complaints through media interviews.
