Biker runs over cop in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - A man riding a motorcycle ran over a policeman who tried to flag him down at a checkpoint in Manila shortly before midnight Thursday.

Ardy Dalanon, 25, was arrested after he ran over Police Officer 2 Jimmy Pelagio, who remains confined at the Chinese General Hospital after suffering broken bones.

Investigators said Pelagio was one of several policemen manning a checkpoint at the intersection of Jose Abad Santos Avenue and Antipolo street when Dalanon, riding a black and white Rusi motorcycle, arrived in the area at around 11 p.m.  

Police officers flagged him down since his motorcycle did not have license plates. When Dalanon tried to speed away, Pelagio blocked his path.

Dalanon ran over Pelagio but failed to escape since he lost control of his motorcycle and fell to the pavement. Other police officers at the checkpoint arrested him.
