Man falls into creek as papal convoy passes

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A man fell into a creek as he was trying to get a glimpse of Pope Francis as the pontiff passed through Pandacan, Manila yesterday.

Police said the pope’s convoy came from the University of Santo Tomas and was cruising along Quirino Avenue to go to the Apostolic Nunciature at around noon when the crowd of pilgrims, all waiting to see the pope, started jostling.

A witness said Tomas Dimaano, who was among those waiting at the corner of Pedro Gil street, lost  his balance. He tried to cling to the person next to him but he continued to fall into the creek.

Police officers assigned to the area pulled him out of the creek, gave him first aid and took him to the Ospital ng Maynila.
