Cop kills neighbor in Pandacan

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was arrested at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 10 yesterday for killing a neighbor who was reportedly suffering from a mental disorder.

Police Officer 2 Arturo Coronel, 33, told investigators he used his government-issued firearm to shoot Ryan Generoso, 23, because the latter reportedly tried to stab him with a barbecue stick on Jan. 12.

According to the results of the initial investigation Coronel shot Generoso because he allegedly did not like the way the man stared at him.

“Generoso died on the spot. He sustained two gunshot wounds in the body,” said Inspector Steve Casimiro, chief of the MPD’s homicide section.

Coronel will be charged with homicide before the city prosecutor’s office, he said.
