Vendor kills partner for changing SIM card

MANILA, Philippines -  A 25-year-old fishball vendor killed his partner for changing her SIM card and then tried to commit suicide in Caloocan City Saturday morning, police said yesterday.

Nelson Mapag is under observation at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center after he slashed his neck minutes after killing Heidi Torremocha, 26, in front of their five-year-old son.

Mapag had been trying to call Torremocha on her cell phone while he was at work but he was not able to get through because the victim had reportedly changed her SIM card, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Bartolome Bustamante.

Mapag went home at around 9:30 a.m. and confronted his partner. This led to an argument, during which Mapag took a kitchen knife and stabbed Torremocha several times then slashed his neck.

Their son, who witnessed the incident, screamed for help. He caught the attention of a neighbor who called the police.
