2 politicians snub NBI summons

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two politicians who own the guns found in drug lord Peter Co’s kubol in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) earlier this month snubbed the subpoena sent to them by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) yesterday.

Of the three subpoenaed, only barangay councilman Vicente Alindada Jr. of Caloocan’s Barangay 8 in Sangandaan appeared to claim that his gun was stolen last Oct. 10.

Alindada is the registered owner of a 9mm Browning pistol, one of the five guns in Co’s possession.

The other politicians, Carlitos Tiquia and Avelino Nicanor, did not show up.

Tiquia, who ran and lost in Valenzuela City in the 2013 congressional elections, owns a caliber 5.56 Bushmaster rifle with serial number L433821, while Nicanor is the registered owner of another a 9mm Browning pistol.

A source told The STAR that NBI agents expect the politicians to show up in the first week of January to give their side on why their guns were found in Co’s kubol or detention house.

The NBI will also subpoena Rep. Joaquin Carlos Rahman Nava of the lone district of Guimaras to explain how his .22 Walther pistol (serial number Z004605) ended up with Co.

Five firearms were confiscated from Co’s fully furnished kubol when fully armed NBI agents and policemen raided the NBP’s maximum security compound last Monday. The guns were on top of the P1.14 million and illegal drugs confiscated from him.

The fifth gun was subjected to macro-etching because the serial number had been defaced.
