Human rights chief visits ‘Bilibid boys’

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Human rights chief Etta Rosales yesterday visited the drug convicts who were transferred from the New Bibilid Prison to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility in Manila amid complaints that their rights had been violated.

The convicts were moved to the NBI following the discovery of firearms, drugs and lavish detention facilities for the high-profile inmates.

Rosales surveyed the area and interviewed personalities. Her visit lasted for about two hours.

She declined to detail her conversation with the “Bilibid boys” but said she listed down their complaints.

“It’s my personal mandate to check their condition,” she said.

She said the 19 drug convicts and the rest of NBI detainees are in a comfortable condition.

“The NBI jail is not crowded,” she said.
