MANILA, Philippines - A Metro Manila Development Authority traffic enforcer was seriously hurt after he was dragged by a man driving an Asian utility vehicle along EDSA in Quezon City yesterday morning.
Traffic constable Sonny Acosta sustained head injuries following the incident in front of the Farmers’ Market in Cubao at past 9 a.m., said Superintendent Ely Pintang, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Quezon City Police District.
Police said Acosta is assigned to man the EDSA-Cubao area from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Acosta flagged down the unidentified driver of a Mitsubishi Adventure with plate number AAB-4197 for moving along the lane designated for provincial buses, Pintang said. As the enforcer was about to confiscate the motorist’s license, the driver allegedly rolled up the window and then sped off, dragging Acosta, whose arm was still stuck in the window.
Pintang said Land Transportation Office records show that the Adventure is registered to Dante Borguete of San Miguel del Monte, Bulacan.
Last month, businessman Joseph Russell Ingco roughed up traffic constable Jorbe Adriatico for taking a video of him. Ingco was caught on video punching Adriatico as he dragged the enforcer several meters along EDSA.
