Cop killed, helper hurt in Navotas shooting

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was shot dead and his helper was wounded by an unidentified assailant in Navotas Sunday afternoon.

Police Office 1 Ronnie dela Cruz, 30, and his helper were attending to a motorcycle in his shop on M. Naval street in Barangay San Roque when the assailant shot them at around 3:30 p.m.

Dela Cruz, assigned at the Navotas police station, was declared dead on arrival at the Mary Johnston Hospital.

His helper, Erickson Duque, 35, was taken to the UST Hospital and is recovering from a gunshot wound in the leg.

A source said Dela Cruz’s murder may be job-related.
