MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy route safety marshals in Metro Manila and other urban areas as part of security measures for the holiday season, an official said yesterday.
These marshals will help protect motorists and commuters from criminals, PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor said.
“Route safety marshals can also respond to incidents of road rage, what with an anticipation of hot-tempered motorists over the expected monstrous traffic jams,” Mayor said.
He noted that police presence and visibility have been proven effective in preventing crimes.
The PNP will also establish police assistance hubs in malls, churches, transport terminals and other places of convergence.
