2 hurt in 3-vehicle EDSA smashup

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were injured in a three-vehicle collision along EDSA in Mandaluyong City early morning yesterday.

Police said Kirby Bautista, pickup truck driver, and garbage truck helper Jose Lula were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Dump truck driver Jesus Palpalatoc said his vehicle was parked along the road when the incident happened.

Palpalatoc said they were collecting trash when the fast-moving pickup rammed the back of the truck.

After hitting the garbage truck, the pickup then hit a taxicab, Marvin Sulayao of the Mandaluyong police traffic division said.

The taxi driver was unhurt.

Bautista said he did not notice the parked garbage truck because its hazards light was not on.

But Sulayao, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, said Bautista smelled of liquor.

Police are readying charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property against Bautista.
