Cop dies in hit-and-run

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City Monday night. 

Police Officer 3 Juanito Luardo, who was assigned with the headquarters support unit of the Quezon City Police District at Camp Karingal, was driving his motorcycle along Congressional Avenue when a truck sideswiped him at past 9 p.m., said Superintendent Ely Pintang. 

Luardo died at the scene.

The truck driver abandoned the vehicle, with plate number RBR-366, Pintang said.

Investigators traced the truck to a man named Remolito Mendoza in San Mateo, Rizal, Pintang said.

However, it was supposedly Mendoza’s brother who could identify the driver since he was the one responsible for the dispatch that day. They were still locating the driver as of yesterday afternoon. 

Pintang said the truck remains impounded.
