Photos of couple attacking enforcers go viral

MANILA, Philippines - Photographs of a couple beating up two traffic enforcers have gone viral on social media.

The incident happened along C-5 Road in Barangay Bagumbayan on Friday afternoon, said Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao.

Partners Edwin Guirimbao Jr. and Roselyn Garcia are now the subjects of complaints for direct assault on an agent of person in authority and physical injury filed by traffic constables Servando Gesta and Geraldo Santiago and photojournalist Arturo Son, who took the photos.

QCPD Station 12 commander Superintendent Dario Añasco said the traffic enforcers flagged down the couple for wearing slippers while riding their motorcycle, which violates a local ordinance.

According to Añasco, the two suspects “acted arrogantly” while they were being accosted. Garcia became angry when Santiago took a video of the incident while Gesta was preparing the violation ticket.

Añasco said the woman hit Santiago on the head with her helmet and kicked him repeatedly. Guirimbao allegedly aided the woman.

Son noticed the commotion and took photographs of the incident and the couple allegedly beat him.

Añasco said the partners were subdued and brought to the police station. They are still being held at the station as of last night, he added.
