Drug stores now required to display AMR infomercial

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Drug stores and pharmacies nationwide are now required to display AntiMicrobial Resistance (AMR) infomercial as part of the government’s efforts to curb the rising incidence of tuberculosis and other diseases.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered drug establishments serving as “access points” of all registered drug products to display AMR infomercial.

Government health experts noted that AMR has been identified as an emerging threat with multi-drug resistant strains of major diseases such as tuberculosis, acute respiratory infection, gastrointestinal infection and hospital-acquired infections.

It is said that many health workers and consumers are dispensing and using antibiotics irrationally.

The World Health Organization previously linked the misuse and abuse of antimicrobial drug as a major driver of AMR wherein antibiotics may no longer work against infectious diseases.

The Department of Health has developed an informercial to raise public awareness about AMR.

Drug stores may coordinate with the National Center for Pharmaceutical Access and Management to get a copy of the infomercial.
