BFP has new chief

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has a new director, Chief Superintendent Ariel Barayuga, after Chief Superintendent Carlito Romero retired upon reaching the retirement age of 56.

Barayuga bested two other contenders, Chief Superintendent Rodrigo Abrazaldo and Chief Superintendent Pablito Cordeta.

“The appointment came after the personal interview by (Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas) of the three BFP generals,” a source told The STAR.

A simple testimonial program was held at the BFP headquarters yesterday.

Barayuga’s appointment comes as the BFP opened the bidding for 469 fire trucks worth P2.6 billion, the biggest procurement in the bureau’s history, in order to provide every town in the country its own fire truck.
