Uber offers vehicles for PWDs
MANILA, Philippines – Global technology company Uber is offering wheelchair-accessible vehicles for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Metro Manila.
Uber said yesterday it teamed up with non-profit organization Circle of Friends Foundation Inc. and its project called Wheelmobile to provide a transportation option for PWDs.
“We will provide a platform for wheelchair-accessible vehicles in the Uber app,” it said.
The transportation option, which started last Nov. 3, will be available until Nov. 8. The Uber Manila team, however, did not indicate if they intend to make the option available permanently.
Uber said the Wheelmobile vehicles can fit two wheelchairs and two companions for the wheelchair-bound, and the drivers are trained to assist passengers with disabilities.
Uber said Wheelmobile charges P450 for the first hour and P7.50 per minute after. All payments will be charged to the customers’ credit cards or other payment methods attached to their Uber account.
