Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A six-year-old boy died after he was hit by a malfunctioning bus in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Homer Bugarin was in a parked tricycle at the corner of Biak na Bato and Mauban Streets in Barangay Manresa when a tourist bus (TGI-709) plowed into three tricycles, including the one Bugarin was in, at around 8 a.m., said Superintendent Ely Pintang, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Genesis Pitiawan, the driver of the tricycle Bugarin was in, was brought to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

The tourist bus was being towed by another bus when the hook connecting the two vehicles came loose. The driver of the bus, Alvino Morales, fled the scene but later surrendered to the police.

To avoid hitting homes along Biak na Bato street, Morales steered toward the tricycles.
