MANILA, Philippines - Jealousy allegedly drove a 30-year-old member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) to commit suicide in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City early yesterday morning.
Police said Corporal Prince Wilfred Gerona died on the spot after shooting himself in the head following a heated argument with his partner inside their rented apartment on Leyte Gulf street, Veterans Village at past 2 a.m.
Initial investigation showed that Gerona was drinking with his partner and another female friend when the incident occurred, Chief Inspector Edilberto Nicanor, Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit deputy chief, said.
Nicanor said the soldier’s partner, whose identity was withheld, told Gerona that the manager of the department store where she works as a sales lady has apparently been showing interest in her.
Gerona got mad and had a fight with his partner. While the woman was trying to explain herself, the soldier went for his gun and shot himself in the head.
His remains were brought to a funeral home, police said.
