Widower facing rape rap kills self

MANILA, Philippines - A widower, who had been charged with rape, hanged himself inside his house in Valenzuela City Thursday afternoon.

Police identified the suicide as Jesus Dumanjog, 67.

Investigators said Dumanjog was found hanging from the ceiling of his house on Upper Tibagan, Gen. T. De Leon street at around 12:30 p.m. A nylon cord was looped around his neck.

His granddaughter immediately sought help from their neighbors, who tried to revive Dumanjog but failed.

Police said the widower could have ended his life after he was charged with statutory rape. It was not immediately known who filed the case against Dumanjog.
