Boy drowns in Marikina River

MANILA, Philippines - A grade one student drowned in the Marikina River Sunday when he slipped and fell into the water as he was chasing his basketball.

The body of Marc Raven Villanueva, seven, a resident of Barangay Concepcion Uno, was fished out of the portion of the river in Barangay Dela Peña at around 10 a.m. yesterday.

The boy’s father, Marlon, told police the accident occurred at around 1 p.m. Sunday. The Marikina Rescue 161 failed to find the boy, whose body surfaced yesterday.
