MRT stops operations over cracked rail tie

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A crack on the track of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) was discovered yesterday morning, prompting authorities to stop the trains for an hour while repairs were carried out.

The cracked rail tie was discovered on the northbound track after Boni Avenue Station at around 7:45 a.m., said MRT-3 officer-in-charge Renato San Jose.

San Jose said they had to do “provisional service,” repairing the crack as the trains moved from North Avenue Station to Shaw Boulevard Station and back.

Between Shaw Boulevard Station and Taft Avenue Station there was no train service as repairs were done and normal services resumed by 8:40 a.m., San Jose said.

The broken track was supposed to be fully replaced last night. – Reinir Padua, Lawrence Agcaoili
