Marikina cites community help vs crimes

MANILA, Philippines - The high crime solution rate in Marikina City is due to the residents’ active participation in the fight against crime, an official said yesterday.

Vice Mayor Fabian Cadiz said community policing is an effective tool implemented by the local police in urging the populace to support the anti-crime drive.

Cadiz said the crime solution rate was 58 percent in May; June, 70 percent; and July at 84 percent. The monthly crime solution rate is used to gauge the authorities’ response to crimes.

“We still have a long way to go before Marikina becomes crime-free but with everyone’s help, we can lessen it substantially,” said Mayor Del de Guzman.
